Can anyone suggest any materials (books/online) that can help with arabic handwriting.

i.e. 1. normal (normal quranic &/or type) and 2. standard modern arabic handwriting - the informal type.

I am sure there is an easier way to write some letters than how I am writing them at the mo.

The normal type that you find in the Qur'an and some printed text is called naskh النسخ

The general handwriting style is known as ruq3ah or riq3ah. الرقعة eg:

"Through the acquisition of knowledge, we become philosophers. But those who believe they have come to know all, know nothing."

If you go to a local Islamic book shop that sells arabic books, they usually have handwriting books that you can get. Or you can just type in the names of the writing styles into a search engine and try and find examples to copy.

Or someone may be able to refer you to a site that will teach you, I just dont know any. Sorry.
