شُهِرَ جَدّه برسول لأن أحد خلفاء بني العبّاس أرسله إلى اليمن ليكون بها أميراً

تمّ استقلّ أولاده بالملك

does this mean "His grandfather Rasool was famous because the first caliph of the Abbasid dynasty sent him to yemen to be a leader in it, then he independance was established there through his children."

OR

"His grandfather was famous as a messenger because one of the caliphs of the abbasid dynasty sent him to yemen to become a leader in it, and then established independance there though his children..."

I'm confused....the rasool bit is confusing...im not sure if it's meant as a name therefore isn't translated or is meant as "messenger"....doesnt make sense if i translate it as messenger....also the end bit...how would u word that....he established independance there through his children....he gained possession or his children did?

please help inshaAllaah.

may Allaah ta3ala reward you with the best ameen

It means that his grandfather was famous by the name "Messenger" (which means thats not his real name but a given one since he was sent) because one of the Abbasid Caliphs sent him to Yemen to be the Ameer there and then his children made it an independent state.
