Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!
I was thinking about putting up this thread after reading Brother Abu Muqatil's about reviving this section. So here's my proposal: this thread will serve as a progress chart/table/list wherein each one of us will post our own Qur'an Memorization program. It doesn't matter what pace we are used to, or how frequent we can update it, or which surah we are doing. The more important requirement is that we each have the intention of memorizing the Speech of Allah in its entirety upon which our lives and hereafter primarily depends on.
To start:
Name: Umm Huraira
Institution/Masjid (if any): Ahman Ibn Hanbal Mosque, Sharjah, UAE
Tools used: One Qur'an I've used since intending to memorize the whole book of Allah, downloads from www.memorize-quran.com (http://www.memorize-quran.com) (jazzak Allah Khair brother for the link), Ipod, and dua'.
Progress Chart:
July 21 - Currently memorizing Surah At-Talaaq (1-5 done).
July 24 - Awaiting my official examination of Juz' Amma and Tabaarak with Tajweed rules of Meem and Noon Saakin scheduled on Monday, insha Allah.
May this be of benefit to each and every one of us. To minimize confusion, each member will have one post from where he/she will edit to update their progress. That way, we can really see when we need to pick up our pace, as well as compare it to others for a healthy competition for good deeds.
فَاسْتَبِقُوا الخَيْرَاتِ إِلَى الله مَرْجِعُكُمْ جَمِيعاً
"so strive as in a race in good deeds. The return of you (all) is to Allah"
Looking forward to racing for the pleasure of Allah!!! :)

July 22 - Surah At-Talaaq (6-12)
Is there a minimum number of times one can edit his/her post?

May Allah subahanHu wa ta3ala make your memorization easy and consistent and preserve the Qur'an in your heart and your mind. Ameen! :)

I just wanted to update you on the brother's recent progress as a means of encouragement.
I am currently revising everything I have memorised so far (starting surah al-Dhariyat until the end - I have just finished al-Waqi'ah today by the Grace of Allah - and skipped al-Qamar and al-Hadeed because I have yet to memorise them.)

Brothers and Sisters,
Please join me in this thread and let's work towards encouraging one another to one of the best deeds that the Prophet (salla Allahu alayhi wasallam) mentioned.
Narrated 'Uthman:
The Prophet said, "The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it." [Bukhari]
It's kind of lonely posting here by myself. The goal of this thread was to actively engage as many members as possible, to feel unified with the same purpose. I hope we will benefit from one another and may we all meet in Jannah, ameen.

Today - Completed Surah Al-Hadeed (12-29), alhamdulillah...I particularly liked this verse. Very strong reminder, subhanAllah.

16: Muhsin Khan: Has not the time come for the hearts of those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism) to be affected by Allah's Reminder (this Quran), and that which has been revealed of the truth, lest they become as those who received the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] before (i.e. Jews and Christians), and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened? And many of them were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah).
Brother omair, jazzakAllah khair. May Allah reward you and make you amongst the preservers of His Speech, ameen allahumma ameen!

did you ever notice how slow times go by when you're reading or memorizing the Qur'an? It's like, I'll be finished memorizing 5 ayahs, I think that AT LEAST half an hour past, and i look at the clock at only like 15-20 minutes past. And in those "15-20" minutes, I memorize, I reviewed what I memorized, then reviewed what I memorized of the Soorah, sometimes actually reciting another Soorah, so I can get my mind off the memorization and see if I can still recite what I memorized after I recited a different Soorah.

I know what you mean, subhanAllah! It's the same as the time spent in the masjid for me as well. Those 1-2 hours seem like the most productive and I consider them to be the highlight of my day! I guess that's what it means by time being relative. We could've used up those same hours doing other things and still it would seem like it just flew right pass by...
May Allah increase the barakah of our time and keep us steadfast upon His Deen. Ameen Allahumma Ameen.

sister umm huraira what's your method of memorization?
Umm Huraira
03-07-2007, 08:45 AM
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh!
Looong overdue reply. Please forgive me brother omair.
My method of memorization include reading and re-reading the pages I need to memorize out loud so I can hear it and commit the positions of the ayahs to my memory. Then after doing so, I listen to a sheikh (usually Al-Ghamidi/Menshawe) and while he recites I silently read the mus7af to be familiarized with the correct tajweed/where to pause/tilaawah. And finally, I recite and memorize on my own taking it half a page at a time. (I downloaded from www.memorize-quran.com (http://www.memorize-quran.com), it has really helped me) My brother advised me that if I could recite the surah/verses 3-7 times straight without mistakes then I have really memorized it. But most times I ask someone to listen to me before reciting to my teacher to find out if I have already memorized the Surah.
Progress Report: :) (It's been a while since I last updated)
Right now, I'm concentrating on the Hifz program I have in my university, and I'm planning to go back to the masjid after I finish my degree (2 sems from now insha Allah). For the mean time, I'm reviewing Mumtahinah with my teacher here. We're doing one surah from this juz' once a week. It's less than the portions I used to do in the masjid, but I found that I couldn't keep up with the pace while studying in university concurrently. But I do miss the masjid... :( No place like it, masha Allah. Can't wait to go back bithnillah. :)
